Projects

How do you find the projects to fund?

There is a growing marketplace of projects, both CERs and VERs, that provide supplies of offsets that meet key technical requirements. Some of these projects offer additional benefits for the local community.

We realise that many customers are keen to support small-scale projects, rather than industrial projects designed for commercial purposes. Smaller projects are generally more difficult to source, because of the costs of verifying carbon reductions. We are keen to hear about projects that may qualify for support from Reduce My Footprint.

Can I pick a project to give the money to?

If you are a business with a specific need, we may be able to provide you with a specially selected project, tailored to your requirements.

How can I be sure that your projects are making the CO2 reductions that you claim?

All the projects that we use to achieve emission reductions are verified by a range of independent experts. CERs are certified by a United Nations-approved process.

Would the projects have happened anyway?

Reduce My Footprint is very careful only to fund projects that are additional, i.e. that would not have happened without our support.

Do you use tree planting to offset?

We are prepared to use tree planting, subject to rigorous assessment, although we recognise that it is controversial because trees eventually die, and this can result in release of CO2.

Forests must be sustainable in the long term and have a net beneficial effect. The kinds of trees have to be carefully selected, and the effects on local communities and the ecological impacts have to be positive.

Reduce My Footprint believes that well designed forestry projects can result in both social and environmental (CO2 offset) gains. We also believe that buying existing sustainable forest to prevent deforestation is an effective way of offsetting CO2 emissions.
