Where the money goes ....

The contributions raised are shared between a range of different projects. Neither ABTA nor AITO benefits financially from Reduce My Footprint. Below is the standard breakdown for contributions made to Reduce My Footprint:

  • 50% toward Certified Emissions Reductions (CERs* More Info Button )
  • 20% toward Verified Emissions Reductions (VERs* )
  • 30% toward the Travel Foundation (TF* More Info Button )

For individuals and small businesses, an approximate breakdown of each 1 spent on the standard Reduce My Footprint "unit of offsetting" (before credit card costs, if applicable) is as follows:

Where the money goes.....

VAT *

15%

Projects

69%

81% (excluding VAT)

Project Supplier &
Reduce My Footprint administration

16%

Reduce My Footprint offers a wider choice of projects to larger businesses, but the unit cost breakdown will be broadly similar to that shown above.

Larger businesses, are, of course, at liberty to use the standard Reduce My Footprint unit, should they wish to do so.

* VAT is charged on all offsets and donations.  The application of VAT to offsets is currently being queried with the Government however.  In the event that VAT were to be determined at any time in the future to be non-applicable, any refunds obtained would be allocated to carbon projects by the Supervisory Board.
